AIP는 크게 일반사항(General), 항로(Enroute), 공항(Aerodrome)의 세 파트로 나누어져 있으며, AIP 내용 중 일부 내용이 일시적(3개월 이상)으로 변경하여 적용될 때는 AIP Supplements으로, 영구적으로 변경되었을 때는 AIP Amendments으로 발간된다.

항공기 비행 및 운항에 필요한 지속적인 항공정보를 수록하고 공지하기 위해 각국 정부가 발행하는 항공정보간행물(Aeronautical Information Publication)이다.

시카고조약 부속서 15권에 따라 각국은 공항, 관제, 항로 등의 종합정보를 제공하도록 하고 있다. 공항의 제원, 항행안전시설의 종류등 항공기의 안전운항을 도모키 위해 항공정보를 수록한 책자로서 총칙, 비행장, 통신, 항공기상, 항공교통규칙, 시설, 수색구조, 항공도, 계기진입 도표 등으로 분류된다. 사용언어는 영어, 불어, 스페인어로 표기.
